President Biden said on Monday said that the US has killed the Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri in a drone attack in Kabul.

Ayman Mohammed Rabie al-Zawahiri was born on 19 June 195.  He was the leader of Al-Qaeda from June 2011 until his death.

Biden administration said last August, when US military retreated from Afghanistan, they would continue to conduct "over the horizon" strikes within Afghanistan on terrorists.

This is the first acknowledged anti-terrorist attack on Al-Zawahiri since troops withdrew from Afghanistan.

In a television address broadcast live from the White House balcony, Biden said he had allowed an attack to kill Al-Zawahiri days earlier.

A senior government official who informed the journalists about the operation said that the attack happened on Saturday at 9:48 p.m. Eastern time.

According to the authorities, a drone launched two Hellfire missiles as Zawahiri climbed onto the terrace of the Kabul safe house where he was living with his family.
